The other day I managed to get a shot or two of some Juvenile Bald Eagles. I posted a shot in the Bird Photo sharing forum. Those that replied said it appeared to be around 3 yrs. That same day, on the west side of the reservoir, I observed an adult sitting on the ice.
I looked through my photos for ones that I shot at the same places earlier. I was thinking it was last year, however discovered it was earlier this year, February 2016. Shortly after they left, no one was seeing them. I returned to the area a couple of weekends immediately after photographing them and they were nowhere to be found. Everyone that I talked to agreed that they seemed to have left. I also have been back to the area a few times between Feb and now, not spotting any. They could have come in earlier, but were not being seen.
Now since the juveniles I spotted this week, saying they're about 3 yrs or so, and then the one adult, would they migrate away and then return to this area in the time frame (Feb-Dec) ? Or could it be that they have been in this general geographic area all along? Most of the time when the Eagles show up, there's buzz about it all over the towns.
Last February there were several adults, however very few juveniles were seen. Contrast that with now, I've seen 4 juveniles and only 1 adult.
