To the poster who said "get the popcorn"...wth are you talking about??

For crying out loud....get a sense of humor. It was said in jest.

Clearly this shipment was not properly packed....HOWEVER.......it appears to have arrived safely. So what is the point of this entire discussion? I guess I don't understand what the OP is trying to accomplish. You received your order, start using and enjoying it.

Seems like the OP has accomplished something Adorama should have done to begin with: decent packing practice. Because of the OP, several others have come forth with the pattern of poor packing, and because of that, Helen is in the process of communicating this with the Adorama's packing department. I now feel a whole lot more confident about ordering things from Adorama, don't you? I guess I don't understand what YOU're trying to accomplish here.

Trying to inject some reality. The product was unhurt. Stop looking for things to be unhappy about. Stop creating problems where they don't exist. There are plenty of other things in this world to worry about than a lack of packing in a box that resulted in.......nothing. Obviously we all handle things differently in our lives. Had this been me I probably would have been a little surprised about the way it was packed but even on first glance the items in the box appear to be fine. And, as such, I would then be excited about, and began plying with, my new toys. And there it would have ended.

And no, I don't feel any more confident about ordering from Adorama. I have no qualms what so ever about ordering from them. I have in the past and I will continue to do so without reservation in the future.

The operative word here is APPEAR...enough said. The OP and any other buyers do not have to be concerned about the "What ifs" for the thousands they spent. Helen & Adorama think there is a problem, so stop the "they don't exist". Your posting "in jest" and try to create drama yourself where there isn't one; talk about creating problem where there isn't one :-(

Completely agree! If the idea of damage is in one's mind the packing has failed.

I don't look at this thread as a knock against Adorama, in fact just the opposite. Helen is very responsible and there is a greater likelihood that these packing mishaps won't happen under her watch. These 'rogue' packers are everywhere. One day packing will probably be fully automated and the human factor removed. But until that happens you can't stand over an employee and watch them pack every box.

I've ordered delicate products from Amazon with insufficient packing material and I've also ordered dog food with so much bubble wrap, I invited some friends over for a bubble wrap stamping party.

+1

I like the OP's suggestion to take your very best lens, pack it similarly, then post a video of rolling it down the stairs.

I'd send it back, immediately. That may teach them a lesson, as well as potentially avoid some slight misalignment issue.

We pay a fortune for that extra 5% of IQ. Some dummy managing their packing costs, or some rogue packer, isn't on the same page - and needs to get a rude awakening. They think it goes unnoticed.

Mystery solved!

Not a rogue packer but the new packing machine grrrrr......

Thanks so much to everyone who emailed with your order numbers which enabled us to ID the problem.
It is being recalibrated as I type, to add the correct amount of dunnage.

That's great to hear Helen. Thank you for going above and beyond like usual! Those machines have a mind of their own sometimes....

Like I stated before for those above, the post is not so much about my order or OPs arriving safe and undamaged while complaining about packaging, but your order the next day or someone's a week later may come broken due to it and maybe with even more gear in it. Which is a preventable problem. If we can let Adorama or whoever else better the technique or process, why shouldn't we? No one here was unhappy, quite the opposite I feel like, we just want to help the process be correct and better. The accomplishment was to help a quality retailer improve the process to help all of us customers in the future. Nothing wrong with that. Simply stated, complaints identify faults which can then be fixed which has been done.

Rouge person or machine, both need adjusting.

I could see a thread like this in the future. Drone delivers L lens, but drops package 10 feet, is this acceptable and is my lens O.K.

I got rear ended on the freeway the other day - 5MPH.

Didn't see damage so I let the guy off - trying to make his day a little brighter.

A week later my backup camera stopped working and the paint started to peel in one spot. Dooh!

Exchange it, but take note of the serial numbers.

Seriously? They installed a new packing machine and didn't bother to have someone monitor it's output for the first month or so? I call that a shameful disrespect for someone's expensive and delicate goods. Really; packing *is* their business. I'd hold them accountable.

It WAS monitored........it was sending out goods packaged correctly with no problems of any kind reported, from around Thanksgiving!

I used to work in the Dot Com division of a very large retailer. We had packaging machines but they were seperate: one for dunnage and the other for taping the package. The dunnage machine wasn't automatic: a person controlled how much dunnage was added to each package.

Is your machine fully automatic? That would be cool to see.

In a former life, I supplied automation equipment for the assembly of printed circuit boards. I loved that job. When the Hi Tech bubble burst, that was the end of that.
