Great shot ... but I think it's 'family photojournalism' not 'just kids'.

Disagree.....It's a pic of his kid so totally fits here. I'm actually happy to see shots of older kids. As far as FP goes, it doesn't tell much of a story. Basically just a shot of her sitting there looking at her phone with what appears to be wet hair wrapped in a towel. I wouldn't say fits in the FP thread. Just my opinion.

I can relate to kids being glued to an electronic device. So for me, the image absolutely "tells a story" ... whatever that means. To me, asking if an image tells a story is like asking if something is really "art" ... totally depends on who you ask.

I totally hear ya....Unfortunately the "story" of the kid glued to the devise is told all to often in today's society. My family is not excluded. It's a constant battle to keep them occupied with something other than a screen. I've got scores of those shots. I've stopped taking them.

That said, the whole "tells a story" thing relates to the many discussions about what the "family photojournalism" thread is all about. Yes, it's very subjective, but the idea is to document "family and its daily events, especially the things that seem monotonous....the mundane by trying to choose exciting compositions or exploring light". I think FP shots should invoke thought by the viewer. Again, very subjective....just ignore me

I have 4 wireless networks from my TP-Link router and labeled one Kids Network and only gave them this password and I have control of when that network comes on and goes off. Weekdays I have it setup to come on at 1700 and go off at 2100 and that gives them plenty of time to pickup after themselves and eat.

Depending on the attitude we get I usually have it come on 24 hours on the weekend, but that depends on them...

Seems to be working rather well these days...

OK ... I probably kicked this off by making a point not very well and, possibly, not very necessarily about where best to post a particular photograph.

I guess I was thinking more from the point of view of what I want to see in the 'Family photojournalism' thread than from the perspective of what I think fits well in the 'Just kids ... ...' thread. In truth, there is clearly going to be some overlap.

The 'Family photojournalism' thread is one of my favourites but it always disappoints me a little when there is an outbreak of delightful snaps of the kids there or our fine family portraits. Both happen fairly frequently. I have nothing against those pictures. I just feel they are in the wrong place and mostly would fit better in the 'Just kids ... ...' thread. Family photojournalism pictures should include an element of documenting the way we live and the events that shape our family lives. They can be joyful or sad, beautiful or ugly, lighthearted or serious but they should tell a recognisable 'story'.

The photo I commented on (https://photography-on-the.net …showthread.php?​p=18479366) is one that I felt naturally fitted within the family photojournalism genre. It is a very well-made image, too, as it happens. What I got wrong was to suggest that it didn't also belong quite properly in the 'Just kids' thread. It does indeed show a slightly older child as she "grows and learns" ... so, of course, it fits here. This thread doesn't have to be only about babies, toddlers and the under-elevens.

I "disagreed" pretty quick as well! checking out the photo again it clearly fits in both threads just fine. Not sure why I was so quick to reply!
