Flashpoint eVOLV 200 TTL Modular Strobe with Built-in R2 2.4GHz Radio Remote System

https://www.adorama.com/fplfev200.html (external link)

The New R2 eVOLV 200
The next step in the evolution of the R2 dynasty.

Flashpoint introduces the next step in the evolution of the outstanding R2 Family. The eVOLV 200, with the heart of the world famous Streaklight 360 TTL and the soul of the ever popular XPLOR 600 TTL, compatible with R2 Canon, Nikon and Sony. The rewards of experience and innovation brings you an amazing miniaturized modular R2 2.4GHz wireless 200ws lithium powered TTL "SpeedMonoLight" with a max recycle time of under 2 seconds and enough energy to cover at least 500 full power shots. You can interchange the best of traditional speedlite style Fresnel heads at GN170 (ft) and shift to the super even spread of a Streaklight barebulb parabolic reflector head at GN 196 (ft), just by plugging it in. That gives more flexibility and instant solutions for multiple off camera lighting while maintaining all of the investment in light modifiers in the Streaklight and ZoomLion models. Add the pro LED modelinglight feature and the picture is complete.

Twin eVOLV's can be joined together to make a 400ws blockbuster the similar to the size of two Zoom Lion's. The stand block accepts umbrellas and can mount the eVOLV 200 vertically or horizontally for exceptional coverage in umbrellas and softboxes. Now you can enhance the R2 Family you started with welcome additions that are portable, versatile and exceptionally talented - at birth.

More to come...

Some of the other photos at the Adorama pre-order page are even more telling. Check out the interface / menu screen shots.

"Add the pro LED modelinglight feature and the picture is complete."

Curious how this will work and if it is an add on?

This is interesting - anyone have more info? can 2 fit into a single Bowens S type adapter?

very interesting - would have been perfect if i was still working at the paper, although I will probably still get a couple.

Would love to see an extension cable to get the little head away from the main pack - make it easy to hide in all sorts of interesting places, and either a 360ws version, or a small bitube head (like the 1200ws head for the AD600)

does anyone have an AD180 flash tube they can measure ? we can try and compare the measurements to the photos of the new unit and try and get a rough size.

I've had the two 360 manual strobes for over a year now and just recently got the TTL version from flashpoint. I kept my manuals just to have two setups for back ground lights but 100% positive I will sell those two buy two of these units. Speedlight size and 200ws will be perfect for background and the head swap idea is great. Built in R2 radio capability...

Two of these evolv 200 units
two 360 ttl
two zoom li-on R2

Life will be good. these will be the ultimate portable setup for when you don't need to overpower sun.

heck ya...

Just saw the price... 350/ea intro pricing eek.

For sure I'll pick up two of these units when they go on sale later this year toward the holiday season for around 250/ea.... maybe 200/ea would be awesome.

Adorama had the first sale on their V860II version shortly after it was introduced. They must have over stocked. Maybe they'll do the same with the AD200 although I doubt you'll see any sales price much below the $300 level.

Surely Godox will follow with an AD400.

Adorama will be the only one carrying this unit in the USA. It's unlikely they will refuse the price. They have the ball in their court. The best we can hope for a is sale.

When they don't sell because they are priced high they will be forced to put them on sale.

Well that sure showed up fast after the recent leaks :) And Adorama has it first.

It looks like the answer is likely "No" and it is radio only, but I'm still trying to figure out if there is a hotshoe on the side of this unit that no image ever posted has shown.

On Adoramas site we have so many more images than any previous leak, but they just won't show the other long side.

ie: this is a radio slave only. Never on on camera flash, despite Adorama's choice of description "SpeedMonoLight"

GN 170 with the speedlight style fresnel head,
GN 196 with the bare bulb attachment

Looks like Adorama already knocked of $20 from the original $350 price. Now pre-orders are being taken for $329

This is not a hotshoe device... this has a threaded boss inside to mount to a spigot but beyond that it's the exact size as a speed light delivery 200ws of performance.

Everyone also says it wont' deliver exactly 200ws but I have confidence it will.

Radio only trigger... which is fine by me. I can't wait for these to be honest but I won't pay more than 250 a piece for them so I'll have to wait for sales.

probably because they lurk on the sites and see the hate toward pricing and not a huge reaction... this is their way to test waters.... find out the sweet spot. IMHO it's 299 now.... 249 later...
