Tell us more about what this is! :)
(Tried googling "Shom's fireball" and I got a roller coaster for results)

Fireball as the reflector from the Maxilite thread.. :)

It's a aluminum HID fixture reflector by Acuity Lithonia, model A17U, 18"Wx13"H, weights exactly 2 lbs with the Bowens adapter.

The reflector has a pre-cut opening a little less than 5 inch. I got the low profile Bownens speed ring insert from Cheetahstand, which is 6" in diameter with flat flange. So this DIY mod is relatively simple as mark and drill 4 holes and use machine screws to mount the insert on to the reflector. I painted it silver to reduce shine from the bare aluminum.

I don't know what kind of light the reflector is originally designed for, but it can be used as a cool modifier for studio strobes, like the AD200. The wall of the reflector focus the light to a tight spot, can throw down range quite far. I also did a quick test with the AD600, got F57 from 8 feet.

Have not use it outdoor yet, but I like to use it up close. With this kind of modifier from short distance, it will produce 'ring' type shadows. I have been experimenting with diffusion material on the reflector to soften the transition, so far I like the thin plastic trash bag the best:mrgreen:

A test shot with the above setup, AD200 @ 4 feet. Similar to the beauty dish lighting with a little more focus effect.

I have a variety of lighting sources including speedlights (canon and lowpro) and some Buff stuff (ab400 and digibee400) as well as some triggers. I came across the ad200's and from what I've read both on their site and other sites, this looks like an impressive and friendly system. It also seems like Godox is the system of choice lately. I am about ready to pull the trigger an ad200 to try it it out. If I like it, I would consider selling off my other lighting gear and going with just one system, which really seems to make sense. Up to now I haven't used lighting much, but would really like to learn more and gain some experience with it. Has anyone done this yet? And are you happy you did?

TIA
DP

I went from ABs to Einsteins to Godox system, never looked back.
I was shooting with a guy yesterday that had AB400 and 800, he was so impressed with the evolv/200 that he's selling his AB to buy the evolv lol. And then I showed him the 600, he about passed out lol

I checked out the AD600, but for where I'm at the 600 is more than I need at the moment. I'm going to start with the AD200, then start selling off some of my lights to finance more. Once I'm more proficient with lighting, the AD600 will definitely be in my future.

The 200 is really nice, super portable and if you get two with a twin head you're pretty much at the AD600 power! I've got 2 ad600 4 ad200 and the li-on TTL speedlight, all on the system and they work flawlessly together! Get the new xpro trigger if you can, it's awesome! Much better than the old style one

It's shipping with the R2 ttl transmitter. I'll grab the xpro on the next light order.

Again, great to know. I often second guess ordering things when I really haven't tried it out. Adorama has always been great to deal with.

The more I look into it, the more I like. I looked at the AD600, but then I saw the AD B2, where you can pair 2 AD200's together for brighter kicks. I realize this would be more $ by the time I put it together, but it will also offer me the chance to use as little or as much light as I need, depending on what I am shooting, including the ability to split the lights.
Really too soon to talk about this, but I also need some modifiers. That's for another day though. Plus, if I pick up a Sony or Nikon, it's just the cost of the trigger, which is what, $69?

Yes exactly the AD200 is really versatile like that. You can also pair 2 AD600 for a 1200 light, I have that kit and have yet to use/need it though!
And 2 AD200 plus the twin head is still cheaper than 1 AD600 no?

Cheaper by about $100. Once I sell off my current lighting, I'll walk away with cash in my pocket though.
