D810 question

I just got a used d810 and everything looks great, but i do have one question. (first nikon camera coming from Canon/Fuji) When the camera is turned off, the top lcd stays on listing the what card is in it and how many available pictures. In my example it lists cf and 256 for available photos. Is this normal or is the top lcd supposed to completely turn off? Thanks

D750 at work stays on. Honestly, I'm not even sure what is says, but it's on.

Nikons are weird. The sensor for the remote control default is to turn off after a minute, even if the camera stays on. You can make it stay on longer with a CF setting. Yet the LCD is always on.

Yup, so far as I know all Nikons display the remaining images on the top LCD ever after being turned off. Been that way with every body I've had going back about a decade now. Was originally concerned about battery life this way, but even after not shooting for months my batteries still have almost a full charge despite the LCD usage.

I can confirm that the display on the D800 does the same thing, as did the display on the D90 I started out with. It is handy and I had one period at work where I was not able to photograph for almost 3 months and the battery was not significantly drained in that period. LOVE my Nikon!

Battery life is great in these cameras IMHO. Congrats on the switch. I love all the pros/cons and systems, but the D810 is really an amazing body.

I just park mine with the battery removed
