These were put onto an external drive off my old PC.

I hooked this up to my laptop and tried to access the photos and heres what happens.

Everything except the top folder gives me this message when I try to open it(see first pic)

Did you click "Continue" and allow the machine to go through the files and give you access? Usually that does it.

Then go to the directories properties by right clicking on the directory. When the menu pops up, click on the security tab. Under the advanced settings button another menu pops up which had a permissions tab. From there you can add yourself as an owner and also give yourself full permissions. Google the error, there are a few decent clips out there that show the steps. (I might have missed one or two :) )

Have you tried any other viewing program to see if you can open the images with it?
Also, I realize this is a obvious question, have you restarted the computer?
The other thing you may want to try is logging in with the actual administrator account and see if you can reset the permissions to "Everybody" from it.

Can you copy them to a different folder? or try running
chkdsk? I wonder if the files are corrupted or on a bad sector on the disk

I had a similar problem a year ago with an external drive. Turned out I didn't format it correctly before storing the images.

Were you able to save the files?

I noticed in the detail tab for the images the information is missing.(titel, date.....)

I heard this is the reason why these are not opening

Go to Start > Run and type in: regsvr32 /i shell32.dll and then hit the enter key. This will re-register the shell.dll file which controls many windows functions.

Reboot and retest your access to the images.

If that does not help, you might want to try a recovery program, (based on the pop up that mentions corrupted data) like GetDataBack.

Going from PC to PC? Still have the old PC or another PC to see if it reads the files?

Taking photos with a fancy camera does not make me a photographer.
