Mom to be

Thought on this here? They only weird thing on her side is this is not her son. It's a family friend, but he was so intrigued by her belly and wouldn't leave her side. It would be nice to recapture something like this with our daughter instead of this boy. But I want to know what the do's and don't's are of a shot like this... Thanks in advance!

This photograph is very endearing. The fact that the boy is not looking at the camera adds to the atmosphere. The lighting suits the restful mood. I like it a lot. The only suggestion I can make is, if you were to reproduce this image with your daughter, maybe dress them both in white. This is only my humble opinion.

I have an objection...

As colors go, I really like the warmth and overall coloring in this image, thus I would strongly disagree with dressing both in something white - the image exactly benefits from all being red-ish and monotone. White would ruin it.

I would use bigger DOF - f1.2 is not needed here /image ain't sharp where it should be, btw

I agree. I think many use as wide an aperture as they can possibly get thinking it makes for a better image. I have seen many wishing for lenses that can open to less than a 1 aperture. A wide aperture has it's place but certainly not all the time.

Thanks and I agree. I was just trying to get a decent shutter speed in a darkly lit room. I should have bumped the ISO as well as AP... even at 1/25 it was still too slow.

Love this image! The only nit pick is i would take some of the saturation back a bit.
