Is it possible to configure a spell-checker that will universally work with all browsers?

If so, I would strongly recommend one that highlights words as opposed to one that auto-corrects (which can cause other problems).

I may be misunderstanding your request, but the forum does not have a spell checker. Spell check is built into your browser.

As Jake said, if you are seeing a spell checker at work when you use POTN, then it is not generated by POTN - it is either your browser or global settings on your computer.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Uh, no.

Sorry, I thought "Is it possible to configure a spell-checker that will universally work with all browsers?"
Was understandable. Apparently not.

I am aware browsers have spell checkers. But apparently 1) some have turned it off, or 2) some are using browsers that do not.

I see many misspelled words in posts on POTN, thus my idea to configure a spell-checker as part of POTN that users cannot turn off.

The tricky part is auto-correct, which can and does lead to some mild disasters. But then, if auto-correct is off and the user does not correct the highlighted misspelled word, we are left with misspelled words. Still, a spell-checker may result is some being corrected.

Just an idea. Not a complaint nor a request.

And what language is this super-duper spell-checker going to work in, after all “American-English” is not the same as “English”.

Oh, no. Do not force a spell checker on me. Those are for people who can't spell on their own or don't proofread.

Apart from my personal objections, please consider the difficulty that the thing would cause when it came to names of wildlife refuges and other localities where photos were taken, in English and other languages; IDs for camera models, lenses, lights, and other equipment; expressive idiosyncratic forms such as "Ahhh" and "Noooo"; and names of POTN members whom other members were addressing or referring to. I doubt that a device with an English lexicon would recognize "Pekka," let alone most of the screen names here.

Well I am so glad that you decided to choose a universal language that all the citizens of the Western world to understand, particularly those in North America. I look forward to your reply. Right now I'm the oldest I've ever been
