LOL complete coincidence here, and I'm glad I could help out another POTN member while helping myself out, BUT......

I just bought a 70-200 IS II and 24-70 2.8 II from a member here on the 10th, then Canon runs their 10% refurb lens sale on the 15th. I paid $2876.00 for the two lenses, and Canon's refurbs would have been $2878.56 haha, so almost the exact same. Pretty crazy if you ask me. Glad I saved the $2.56!

Don't think there would've been any difference in quality, as this members lenses seemed in like new condition and came with the original accessories. Full disclosure, I don't have them yet. Missed them on the first go around from USPS so have to pick them up tomorrow.

I always try to buy refurb, it's too good of a deal to pass up, especially with their 15% coupons every few months. The thing is though, you have to be really quick to jump on them (set up price notifications on canonpricewatch), and even then you miss those most of the time because there's a limited quantity in stock. So, if you're waiting for that ultra awesome refurb deal, you could be waiting months, years even. That's where buying a good used lens is absolutely worth it.

Also, I do have to pay tax on the refurb, not sure about you. For your combo that would have come out to about $200 for me. So, I would say you got a great deal. :)

CC always welcome.

I've been under the impression that a "great shape" used lens would be at the most about 20% below the new price. But I could be mistaken, since I haven't done enough "stuff" to be considered any kind of expert!

Well then sounds like I made out alright, since I paid $100 less than what these would go for new minus 20%. That's not including the $305 extra tax I would have to pay at the local camera store.
