Hi everyone. I am new to the board and the SLR world. I have always liked taking pictures but until now have only had point-and-shoots. I got my Rebel XT with 28-135 about a month ago and have shot 900 pictures or so. I have attatched some of the "best" ones and would really like as much help as I can get. I would like to know what I need to improve and what I am already doing well. I don't get discouraged easily so please let me have it. All images are not edited but editing is welcome. Please tell me what you did though.

Jeez...Easy does it!!! Information overload! How about just picking one or two images you want C&C on. BTW, there's plenty in there I like!

Well let's look at the first two; You chopped off the poor girl's head in the first one and there seem's to be something funny going on with the White Balance there (Don't worry; I'm still coming to grips with WB too). The image is not sharp either. For a portrait, try your best to use a tripod, monopod or at the very least, up the ISO (ASA for us old blokes :-) ) so you can use a faster shutter speed if hand holding (the camera that is).

The second one I like. Your model/girlfriend/wife (all of the above) looks much more natural and relaxed...gives you the warm fuzzies. WB still looks out though? There's something blurry sticking out the back of her head on the left you could clone out too. But I like it nonetheless. Good job!

Thanks. I just have the white balance on Auto for now. Not quite sure what to do with it yet.

I think the colours look pretty flat. you need to pump up the contrast and some saturation on theser pics to make them pop. I'm no expert with portrait work so I can't realy comment with the lighting setup there. Photoshop is your friend. It saves me all the time.
