Here's my new rig, decided against being frugal but the benefit is that I'll never have to buy another tripod or head for birding/wildlife. Can you see it? LOL I guess you get a Sidekick if you already have a nice ballhead, or check out Jobu gimbals, B&H sells them.

Sorry for the poor quality, cell phone pic

QUOTED IMAGE

EDIT: oh yeah, it's a gitzo 3530LS (no center column) Wimberley head II and Wimberley F-9 flash bracket.

Outstanding setup. Who made the flash attachment? It's a Fresnel lens, I'm guessing?

Thanks, Jon.

Are these things overall effective, or only in limited circumstances or ranges? Looks like a clever idea, anyways.

they work great for long distances (just remember to not let the sun hit it or you WILL burn your flash, trust me, i know)

Or if the sun is over your shoulder, they'll burn your lens. Thanks to Doug Gardner for that tip:)

My new Gorillapod is attacking!!! My monopod with my new 484CR2 ballhead. It was gift. I still plan on getting the 488 but for now this will do for general use and stabilization with the mono/gorillapods.

Here's an updated one of mine now that I got my replacement 500L :-)

I got the Sidekick while the lens was being swapped out so this was the first time it was on the rig. It was a little funky getting balanced but once you do all I can say is WOW!!! I can only imagine how cool the full Wimberely must be.

Forgive the quality I wanted to take them with the body on so I used my P&S... At least its a Canon :-)
