How did the Feisol handle that what looks it might have been salt water?

Indeed that was salt water. :) It took it without a problem in my opinion. I extended the first parts of legs only, to avoid getting water into the locks.

After use I washed to tripod with tap water and used paper towels to dry it. While washing I removed the rubber caps for legs as water got into them. :)

the stock hood is designed for full frame cameras and is really too big

I don't understand your thought process here... you don't need smaller hoods for smaller sensors...

Actually, you 'need' a bigger hood, the Sigma 85 1.4 comes with a hood extender for crop bodies.

A smaller sensor means 'more tele', so 'longer lenshood'.

I think he might have meant bigger, as in larger diameter, rather than longer length. The 67mm screw-in lens hood he is using is much smaller diameter that the Canon ET-74 lens hood.

In that case he is correct.... Crop cameras can use smaller diameter hoods without vignetting.

Too true. I've got my dad's 20 year old tripod that is perfectly functional and is very nice, but it doesn't go as low as these and it doesn't have a horizontal column, both of which I really want.
