I've never sold/bought anything from our own POTN Classifieds. How does it work, or how do you set it up to sell? I have a PayPal account, but I don't know how I use PayPal for transactions.

To start, create a post with the details of what you have to sell. You can use a template in the sticky if you want (https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=681676)

If someone is interested, they will probably send you a private message or email stating they are interested and/or would like to buy your item. Typically someone will pay for the goods before you ship.

All you need to do is give them your paypal address (email address you log into paypal with) and they send you money through paypal. I highly recommend NOT accepting the "gift" option as payment as that negates any protection you and the buyer have. People may use this option to get around paying transaction fees (you, the seller, incurs the transaction fees).

Once you receive the money in your paypal account you ship the item.

Thank you for responding. A couple questions: 1) who typically pays for shipping and what method of shipping is typically used? 2) how much is the PayPal transaction fee, and is it always the seller who incurs the fee?

Oh, one other question: Once I receive the money in my PayPal account, how do I get the money from PayPal? Or, is it always going to be in the account in a form of "credit"?

Who pays for shipping depends. Some people add shipping onto final sale price and some people include it into the asking price. Shipping provider can vary as well but normally either USPS, UPS or FEDEX.

Your paypal account should be linked to a bank account. Once the money is in your paypal account you can do a withdrawal and the funds will be electronically deposited into your bank account. I think they may have an option to send a paper check as well, but not sure.

Great, thank you for answering the questions. :-)

Harold3C recommends not using PayPal gift, but you should know that it's not allowed on POTNhttps://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1396822.

Also, as a buyer, I prefer an "all in" price (PayPal fees, shipping and insurance) rather than "net to me" pricing. As a seller, this is how I price items.

Speaking of insurance, I strongly recommend you ship insured. While it's unlikely that your shipment will be lost or damaged, insured shipping is relatively inexpensive.

There are fees with PayPal gift just so everyone knows if paid via CC, they still charge their fee. Gift does mean the same it once did.

Also I would point you to the FAQ pages at PayPal, so that you have the info directly from the service you want to use.

Try selling some small, cheaper stuff before selling large, expensive items. Just so you have an idea how this all works...
Communicate well, keep the buyer posted with any pertinent info.
Over-pack your items. You can't use too much bubble wrap! Don't have stuff sliding around in a box full of air.

I'm also debating on listing some Items on this forum. Is it better if the buyer supplies his pay-pal address and the seller then sends him a pay-pal invoice. That way the
buyer has a actual receipt for the Item he purchased.

You always have a transaction record regardless of receiving an invoice.

But there is nothing wrong with that approach if you would like to do the deal that way, it is an acceptable method.

Very Important !!!! Ship to the address listed by Paypal ... never ship to an alternate address if you want to be protected . People steal other peoples paypal but have stuff shipped to an alternate address . If you do and the true owner of the account disputes , you lose and the money is taken away from your account . Unless you ship to the address provided by paypal , even if they were hacked you are protected .
