I've always used regular threaded filters screwed on my lenses.
I mainly uses ND-Filters for long exposures.

What are the pros and cons of "regular" filters vs "filtersystems" with a filterholder?

I have never used either with the exception of a cpl, so take my comments as you may.

I think the advantage is the ability to more quickly swap filters, especially when you have multiple. If you have a ND + Grad ND + cpl all screwed on top of each other, what will you do when you need to change the filter closest to the lens? The ability to slide the filters in and out is probably much faster with a kit system. Also, you can adjust Grad ND filter horizon lines with a filter system. I don't know that you can do this with a screw on.

With that said, I just bought a Lee Foundation and Big Stopper kit over the weekend. I will not be buying Grad filters. I will probably just exposure blend in PS with layers and masks.
