Anyone have some portrait shots taken with the 180mm canon macro they could share. Any performance comments about using this lens for portrait/macro?

But if you mean portraits of people, I'm afraid I don't have any. It would be one of the last lenses I'd choose for people pics. Great lens, but it's rather long focal length for people... On full frame 135/2L is my preferred "long portrait" and I use 85/1.8 as "short portrait". (On APS-C I use the 95mm and a 50/1.4.) The 180 macro also is pretty slow focusing.... probably would be okay for posed portraits, but might miss candids. It's just the nature of macro lenses that have to focus all the way from infinity to 1:1 that their focus is relatively slow. It's also slower by design... "long throw'" focus that emphasizes precision over speed.... shallow depth of field makes focus accuracy pretty important. Finally, it's an f3.5 lens. That's fine for macro, but for people portraits, there are times I'd rather have a lager aperture. Alan Myers
