How does the Elinchrom deep octa compare to Cheetahstand Ricebowl?
I don't have the rice bowl and I do get the desire to compare with side by side shots, since this does reveal differences which are hard to tease out. But in a certain way, when it gets down to minute differences, the skill of the photographer weighs much heavier in the balance.
This leads to two issues. The first is getting so caught up in testing that we fail to get a piece of gear and master it instead of constantly chasing a magic solution. The second is that side by side tests sometimes reveal that the photographer knows how to use one modifier to its advantage and not the other.
Both of these modifiers, based on images I have seen, are capable of good results and are fairly similar in capability. Of the images I have seen from others, I see more of the quality I like in pictures from the Deep Octa, so I would be biased this direction. If you look at images from both and tend to prefer a quality from one, get that one. If they both look good to you, just get one, stop looking back and just use it and master it.
I don't think either would be a bad choice.
