I'm following this thread, Jake, hoping we will get many updates and ultimately pics from the journey from all of you travellers, so we, who can not join you lucky souls, can enjoy the experience vicariously. I can so imagine your excitement! How many times does this make for you, Jake?

Not jealous at all

Should be a great trip, meanwhile I'll put up with the Barbary Macaques that roam around my town.

Those are the exact days I will be shooting the Supergirl Pro and US Open of Surfing contests. Not sure which one I would rather be doing. I am a little jealous, a safari is on my list for sure. Cant wait to see the results and gear list.

Currently rolling up lenses, batteries and bodies in Boxers, socks and T-Shirts to stuff into carry on.
500mm is strapped down to the rails of my rolling Samsonite,. ;)

Checked bag has a tripod, chargers and the 500mm's lens bag for when we get there so far.

Now where am I going to put my other stuff?

First off you don't need no "other stuff"...

I assume at some point we will get a blow by blow, day by day account of the trip.

So fun. Lucky you.

When we went in 2006, there was not a lot of opportunity for a blow by blow, but we did manage some updates.
I imagine that things might be a bit more connected, but truly I have no idea.

Sadly, I am the WORST at social media-ing while on the road, so no promises :)
I actually tend instead to break out a pencil and a pocket sized journal.

Oh, and of course,. I take lots of pictures :)
