Poor Man Photography

Playing around with 1/2" EMT pipe and wood.
Still have to tweak it, the EMT elbow in think I will put it in paint can and concrete it in, then I can add a 1/2" pipe the length from floor to ceiling so I can make it compact for storage, paint it all black and come up with a handle for the bolt that tightens against the pipe also waiting for the fittings that the flash bracket attaches the flashes them I can mount them to the wooden block.
The block of wood for sliding up and down the pipe are really cheap to make.
I thought the stands would come in handy for flash accessories, snoots, small beauty dish, among other attachments.

So you are building a light stand? Very economical

How well can you mount the pipe to the base? It looks like it would rotate easily, do you have it well secured?

I was thinking of cutting the elbow off just enough to fit in a paint can, Drill some holes in the elbow, run a couple of bolts through the holes, plumb the pipe up straight then pour concrete in the paint can, when it sets up the pipe isn't going anywhere.
I plan on leaving the elbow sticking out of the paint can, to where I can add the upright pipes to the elbow coupling.

Seems like a cool idea.

Can you show where light and modifier mount? I'm not clear why it won't tip in the direction away from the boards. Or is the far board where the can with cement goes?

i suspect you would hang the light on the side of the wood base but ...

stands are cheap. (edit:well cheap stands are cheap most certainly better than an off center base)
