Sri Lanka, any help please on wildlife and photography?

We are visiting Sri Lanka over Easter for 12 days. I know there are plenty of opportunities to shoot a range of wildlife but does anybody know the better places/parks to visit? Would I need a white prime or can I get away with the 100-400 on my 5D4 (I am guessing birds would be plentiful) ?

Any other nature based photography tips/locations welcome

Your post inspired me to look up Sri Lanka on Wikipedia. When I came to the Flora and Fauna section I was really surprised to see just how much wildlife diversity there is!

Are you going there just for photography, or are you going for other reasons, with photography being something that you will fit into a bit of free time?

Hi Tom, thanks for that. It is a family holiday and we might be moving around a little, hence my hesitation to take the 500 f4, plus other lenses and two bodies Pretty sure I would miss it though Although the 100-400 plus TC works surprisingly well on the 5D4.

There really are plenty of national parks and wildlife seems abundant.

Well in the end I took the 200-400 to cover all eventualities. Worked out quite well although on a real wildlife trip I would prefer 500 and 100-400, quite often animals or birds are just that bit too far (like leopards in trees )

But the 200-400 performed well for the big stuff, sometimes too close and having to stitch images...
