Non of those .... it is actually easy and fast ... thats why I shoot most of the times on gray background .... The background that you want to put needs to be darker ..... put it on top of your image , change the blend mode into SOFTLIGHT and thats it :) .... Now make a mask and paint out that background from the model .... I use quick selection tool and just correct it with the brush .... For this image above it took me 10 minutes to complete it .... With this kkind of work you keep real shadows so it looks real ...no need to mess with shadows later and draw them etc ....hair looks perfect .... nost of the time you dont have to be precise with masking at all ....

one more example ... I do this all the time :)
