The sun will always come up again next morning...

If you live far enough north then you understand that 'morning' may not always happen on 'tomorrow'.

I don't know, the damn BBC won't let me view it! Apparently because I am a UK TV licence payer, essentially a TV watching tax to pay for the BBC, I can't see the commercial international site. Even though I guess it is free to view in the RoW? Just because it might have a few adverts on it. Of course I can't get on the UK site from the RoW either.

On the PBS network in America is a TV show named Globetrekkers. It is one of the best shows on TV.

It often reveals people who live in some of the worst locations on the planet - from the perpetually frozen sunless to the hottest sun-drenched deserts.

On one hand you wonder why people would live in such areas. On the other, you respect them for doing so.

For the people who live in this location, often daily life is a struggle. Yet they persevere. They deserve the utmost respect.

That's insane. I love the BBC site, but get annoyed when it refuses to play videos this side of the pond.

Thanks to being sent a screen grab of the pages I now know what we are talking about. It's odd but it was only this week, while randomly watching videos on Youtube, I saw something about visiting Svalbard. Aparently it is quite easy, with the one exception being that you can only fly in on flights from Norway. I don't know that I would want to spend too many winters that far north.

When I was in the RAF, although not underground the building I worked in did not have windows, and you couldn't even see daylight when working in the controlled access security entrance. We did 12 hr shifts, so in winter you could enter in the morning, and leave in the evening and it would be dark. Doing two days, two nights, four off, you barely go to see daylight when on shift since you would be sleeping during the day after the nights. That was not pleasant, and I really feel for those who are in the high (ant)artic during winter.

Still I thnk it would be grat to visit the Spitsbergen group during that transitional period from night to day.
