Ultra Wide -

Has anyone used both the Canon 11-24 and the Sigma 12-24 Art?

I was about to ask something like this too. I was looking for an ultra wide (10-12 on the wide end) for a crop sensor. I haven't seen the Canon 11-24 or Sigma 12-24. I've come across a Canon 10-22, Sigma 10-20, Tamron 10-24 & a Tokina 11-16. No clue which one is the best buy.

The Canon 10-22 will be wider on a crop than the ultra-expensive 11-24. You'd need to use the 11-24 on a FF camera to get the benefit of the ultra-wide 11mm. The 10-22 on an APS-C sensor will be an equivalent to 16-35 FF, which is pretty wide, but nowhere near the 11-24.

I don't have experience with any of those lenses though

the 11-24 is good, but super fat and pretty darn heavy. Reviews put the sigma slightly behind, but in the same league. You either use rear gels for ND's or super awkward 150mm filters. 11 is a nice POV if you care about verticals. I shoot 10mm on FF often, can make for some dramatic shots.

Not sure what body you using, but if its a crop check out the Canon 10-18mm STM
Stunning lens for the money and punches waaaay above its weight

I own the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 and have been very satisfied with the results. Considered a manual focus prime since it's for landscapes and astro, but figured the zoom would allow me to reframe without having to foot-zoom and the AF would make it more versatile than a manual focus lens.

For the price of a 11-24 to use on your crop camera, you can buy a new 6d and a 16-35/4 and have money left over and have better images.

I fell in love with the 10-22mm when I had it. Sweet lens for the price and there are probably good deals for used lenses. I wouldn't consider either the Canon or Sigma for FF.

I love my 6D and 16-35 f/4

I found a deal on here for the 10-22mm with a hood for $285 delivered and jumped on it. I can't wait to get outside and use it. This is a comparison of the wide end of my 18-135 and the 10-22.

(Bonus points if you know who any of those guys are other than Mickey Mantle & Nolan Ryan! )

The Sigma 12-24 is nice because it works on both the crop and FF bodies. The Tokina 11-16 works on a FF too, but is most trouble-free at 16mm, I treat it as a 16mm f2.8 prime on the 5D.
