Teleconverter help!

So I made a stupid mistake and bought a Sigma 1.4x Teleconverter (EX DG model) from eBay. I was looking for Canon EF mount and somehow I managed to buy a Sigma mount. I double checked the listing and nothing in the listing states Canon so it's totally my fault (impulse buy after a long day at work, probably couldn't read straight if I tried).

In any case, I am super confused now because the teleconverter accepts Canon lenses but mounts on Sigma. So picture my confusion when I was able to mount my Sigma 70-200 OS (EF mount) on it and then went "WTF!!!" when I tried to mount the teleconverter on my 70D.

Has anyone run into this before?

Are you saying you bought a Canon-EF-mount Sigma 70-200 OS lens, for your Canon-EF-mount Canon 70D, and never tried to mount the EF lens on the EF camera? I can't figure out why you bought ANY Teleconverter in the first place.

I wanted more reach thus I bought the Sigma 1.4x Tele not realizing I was bidding on a Sigma mount version.

I am confused because logic dictates to me that the mount you buy would be consistent for lens and body, i.e. if you buy a Sigma mount teleconverter, you mount a Sigma mount lens on it to your Sigma body, and vice versa for Canon.

This particular teleconverter takes Canon EF lenses but mounts on a Sigma body - I'm trying to figure out if this is an actual product or whether I've been fleeced on eBay (my own attention to detail not withstanding).

Sorry about your dilemma.
I would suggest returning it, or reselling it.

There is no reasonable way to convert it to EF mount,. not worth the hassle or cost IMHO.

Then get a new one with the proper EF mount.

I am a little amazed it is Canon on one side and Sigma on the other, I would not have thought that existed.

Fleeced? Hardly. You bought an adapter to mount a Canon lens on a Sigma camera. It must be an actual product. You bought one, didn't you? Care to share a link to the actual item you purchased?

OP, your post somewhat confused/confusing, so let's start assuming zero knowledge.

• Sigma is a brand of camera, and Sigma is a brand of lenses.
  
• Sigma has its own lens mount (SA mount) on Sigma cameras.
  
• Sigma makes Sigma lenses with appropriate lens mount to fit Sigma cameras, Sigma lenses with appropriate lens mount to fit Nikon cameras, and Sigma lenses with appropriate lens mount to fit Canon cameras.
  

I agree. If you are getting lesions from it, just toss it in the trash.

Yikes, put it back on ebay, for a $1 start bid, absolute auction and make sure they understand it is canon lens to sigma body. What a bummer, but chalk this up to lesson learned..

Not much else you can do. I know I've spent that much on crappy lighting equipment, or DIY projects I should have bought the right thing to begin with..

Again, I was not looking for a Sigma mount teleconverter - I purchased one in my haste. The listing is quite clear it is for Sigma and I've admitted my fault in that.

I am out of town right now but I will post pictures to prove this unicorn indeed exists when I am back. The front cap even states "For Canon EF" and the back "Sigma".

While I am obviously angry with myself for being careless, I am also intrigued as to how this product even exists.

No this is definitely not the MC-11 mount converter. It is the exact item in the eBay listing I posted above.

It is not without the bounds of reason for it to be quite possible to insert a Canon EOS mount lens, the male half of the bayonet, into the female Sigma SA mount. If the SA mount diameter is just a mm or two larger than the EF, and the locking flanges are in the same orientation the EF could physically fit the SA mount. Of course the lens would not operate in that situation.

Also if the Sigma mount is a mm or two larger in diameter than the EF mount, then it will not be possible to get them to physically mate up.

I'm sure you just have a perfectly normal Sigma SA mount 1.4× converter. No panic or worries, you will just have to resell it, since you have no complaint that the converter was misdescribed by the seller you bought the converter from, or that it is faulty.

Also considering how poorly fitting Canon body caps are I would again not be surprised if someone has accidentally swapped the caps at some point.
