I am looking for a beauty dish. a few years ago, there was someone in the seattle area making beauty dishes for a reasonable price. Does anyone recall the company or name of the beauty dish that I am referring to? I hear it was good quality for a good price and I am in need of one. any help would be greatly appreciated

Also, feel free to recommend good quality Beauty dishes somewhere close to the same price range

The one you're thinking about is a small company and people have been having troubling getting responses. BobbyZ has one and likes it, he is probably your best source for advise.

I have a 28" Fotodiox dish that does a creditable job. I've run over it with my car so it has so dents but still gets the job done.

There are some collapsible options available from Cheetah Stand that I use as well.

Westcott came out with collapsible version designed by Joel Grimes. Kind of pricey but good shape. Fotodiox just introduced a collapsible BD as well.

Most come with diffusion panel to turn them into octaboxes.

I suspect you are thinking of a Kacey Enterprises Beauty Dish.

I own one and have been happy with the product, except for the GRID.
The beauty dish has held up, the grid was broken shortly after it arrived.
The grid has been held together with glue to keep the cracks from spreading
further.

I emailed Kacey ages ago and never heard back. The last update on their website appears to be January 2014, so, almost 3 years ago... I'm guessing the company is no longer in business? Pity, as I heard their product was really great.

If you can afford it, I'd suggest a Mola beauty dish. They're spendy but incredibly sturdy and worth it. I also have an old style Paul Buff beauty dish (rounded, not flat, back) and it's great as well. I drag it out into the desert for a week at a time and it's been beat to crap and barely shows it. There's no way in hell I could do that with the Mola Setti because it's just way too big (and a considerably greater investment than the PCB beauty dish I found on craigslist for $50 used).

I have Kacey's dish and like it. I need to do a side by side with Kacey vs older Paul Buff dish. I would love to get my hands on Mola. Another reasonable option is Speedotron dish.

I have a 16" strobies bd that uses a bowens mount. It comes with a sock. I got it in a kit that contained a mount for a speedlite on a lightstands with a bowens mount, the bd, and a couple other items as I recall iirc strobies is under interfit.

The beauty dish is intended to be close to the subject. The general rule of thumb is no farther away than one times the diameter.
Its design is intended to create a directional light with no hot spot and rapid but graduated transition form lit to shadow areas.

Its a head shot modifier. In my view, any BD smaller than 24 inches in diameter is not effective for creating the intended lighting character.

(one man's view)

Well you need the speedring, I wish the B&H pictures were clear to show if the deflector panels was included or separate at $80 something. I know folks for Mola buy those glass and perforated panels. And if you decide to get a grid, it is lot more.

Another option is this speedotron.

If you can afford the Mola, I'd go with that. Or a good 2nd option would be the original Paul Buff beauty dish (NOT the High Output ones), it's a bit hard to find though. Speedotron is a knock-off, or maybe just inspired by the Mola Demi. Decent, but if you're picky you'll see this weird thing where you can almost make out rings of light on your subjects (due to the scalloped shape), and there's definitely more of a chance of a hotspot with how their deflector is just translucent material. It's not the worst, but it takes a little more finesse to get the same images you would from the other 2.

I've never tried the Kacey, always wanted to but could never find one. I ended up getting a Mola Euro (33.5") and the Mola Rayo .... I think they're the ultimate BDs!
