Problems with FoCal. looks like its still unreliable after all these years.

I normally never bothered with a small adjustment like +-2 but since I calibrated with paid software I entered it. Read the last sentence of the last paragraph on page 1.

Before you use the software to find your values, follow the procedure in the Canon link above and see how different the results are. As the Canon link points out, you need to shoot 3D objects to evaluate how the shift in focus affects your desired AF plane. Even if you use FoCal, you need to validate the settings with real images of real things ... which you can do without FoCal.
