.

Do you pre-focus on a given distance, then try to release the shutter when the butterfly enters that "zone"?

Or, do you actually try to keep the little red focus square on the butterfly as it flutters about?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

pre focus usually. and try and guess which direction they will take off in. I zoom back a little to give myself some leeway for them to maneuver in. If they are not feeding consistently but merely taste testing I will try to stay with one as they will sometimes spend some time fluttering in a tight circle near a given flower/bunch. You really have to sit back for a few minutes and look for the patterns then shoot accordingly.

Dear didereaux,

These are very nice! I get excited when I can get a halfway decent picture of a big fat bumblebee hovering around my hosta plants.

I'll have to try butterflies.
