These 2 are prolific in the desert SW. They look similar but are not the same. Kind of cool though.

I have pyrrhuloxia photos but I meant to post the phainopepla.
The crest and body size are similar with the cardinal.
I know the beak isn't close like the Pyrrhuloxia but it's cool.

Ha! A 3rd "variety" of the Cardinal! I wasn't aware of this version, or more correctly, species. I learned of the Pyrrhuloxia, I think, 2 winters ago and got good shots of one. As I understand it, these only range into the U.S. as far as the southern tip of Texas.

Rog, it's not a variety. They just share the similar size and a crest. They also hang out together here in AZ.
