Not a typical Pied-billed Grebe picture. Bird behavior.

I had never seen a Pied-billed Grebe in flight in 10+ years of birding, let alone get a picture of one. It was fun to see and photograph this species landing belly first. I'd thought I would share it with others who, like me, assumed this species landed feet first like most other waterfowl.

This bird was chasing another when I saw it last spring. Probably during a courtship ritual.

Pied-billed Grebes normally just dive to escape trouble; probably why I had not seen one in flight before.

Well, that's certainly a unique shot!

I wonder if they've tried body surfing? ; )
