A few years ago (6?) a friend sold his Canon 20D to a budding photographer. It has a design life of 100K actuations - but it already had 250K on it and is now, probably, 300K +.
It is still working as well as it was brand new, looking a bit tatty though! You can never tell with shutters, they have a design life but then they have an actual life which has little to do with the design life. In other words just go out and use it - That's what you want it for!
