New to the Fuji ecosystem and it seems like there really isn't a "budget" style lens offering like how canon has. All of the glass is amazing quality which I don't mind at all.

Where does one look for used lenses since Fuji owners tend to hold on to their lenses?

Thanks!

Ebay and another forum I am not sure if I can say here has a much larger fuji community and hence gear for sale. I have been posting a lot there.

I paid $450 for my 14, $515 for 23, and $203 for fisheye all on fleabay, so there are solid values if you are patient.

I was editing pics yesterday from Fe, 14, and 18-55 and I must say as someone who has owned cheaper canon glass and L glass, the fuji lenses in addition to rendering well are very sharp (and samyang is also known to be super sharp center, and it really is). Fuji renders highlights and clipping a little weird sometimes, and the waxy faces at higher ISO i have seen some evidence of, but when I was considering it someone said consider getting fuji lenses the same as L lenses, and that is really true enough.

Ebay is good. Try and filter the search for used lens in Japan USA UK and Australia . Especially important is Japanese Ebay for Fujinon X lens as the prices they have for used photographic stuff can be more than competitive with US , Australia ,UK etc. The main advantage to dealing with the Japs is they are meticulous in how they care for their cameras and lens. It must be in their culture because every lens and camera body I have bought from Japan has been in that good a condition I would swear they were new. This is even true for old film cameras they sell on Ebay. Not only are they half the price of ebay australia but they are again in an immaculate condition. I just got a Olympus OM4 from there and not only did it come in pristine as new condition ( camera was produced in 1985 so is over 30years old) but it came in its original box! And anyway...if you cant find second hand new prices of many of their x lens are damn good prices compared to a Canon L equivalent.

Alsom IMO a good start would be getting the 18-55 and then build from there. I would rank it with Canons L equivalent glass quality wise. Its a a perfect walk around lens and its new price is pretty damn good compared to equivalent top quality pro glass Nikon and XCanon have on offer. Also Fujis primes like 35 f1.4 p is not too pricy new . Superb glass and especially affordable prices second hand when they come up . The only weak lens in their whole range in my opinion is their old 18mm which was one of the first lens released when the xpro1 was released and youwill see it cheap. Probably better to steer clear of that and anyway if you have a 18-55mm you wont need it . FYI the 18mm f2 is ok in the center but not so good on the edges. Apart from that all the others are top notch glass and sharp as anything and if you keep a watchful eye on Ebay you will certainly come across a good second hand lens at avery reasonable price

BTW ....Here is a shot I took with my xpro1 and x60mm macro handheld leaning over a neighbors fence.. This lens would eat Nikon or Canons best pro lens alive when it comes to sharpness, contrast and general color from Fujis special lens coatings . And ....even better is this lens second hand on ebay can be had for bargain prices lately. And if you cant find second hand have a look at online prices new because IMO its still damn cheap compared to other brand s.

When I was searching this time last year, I was disappointed to discover the used gear I sought was frequently priced at or near the going rebate prices for new gear. It just seemed that there was far less product available for resale in the US compared with other markets.

Adorama's used prices would often be at or even below what private sellers on ebay or craigslist were demanding.

I have said this before here, but it is worth reiterating on this thread. I strongly dislike zooms. The 18-55 is one of the
Most perfect lenses for at least the smaller sized fuji cameras. The iq is amazing, 2.8-4 really isn't cripplingly slow, and for a walk around easy size and convienence, I am really blown away. I liked the sigma 17-50 2.8 when I had a crop canon, and like this variable zoom more. It just fits the fuji format so well. Great iq/rendering, convienent, and small in size.

I should have the 18-55 soon and I can't wait to test it out. So many mixed reviews online about it but I believe the negative reviews are from people that don't practice technique enough and want a fast lens to save them. But I could be wrong...

I agree that the 18-55mm is a fantastic lens, and I too don't like zooms.

As for the used lens question; I have bought all of my XF lenses used and haven't paid over $300 for any of them (my lenses are listed in my signature). If you're patient and aren't afraid to haggle, there are great deals out there.

My favorite places to buy lenses are here on the forum and on this forum;

http://www.fujix-forum.com/classifieds/ (external link)

And of course over at the FM market;

http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/board/10 (external link)

Amazon warehouse deals sometimes have good deals also as long as you know how to spot the fakes (which is pretty easy). eBay is good sometimes, but usually the good deals are gone quick on eBay unless you're into bidding... I hate bidding because if I find a better deal available right away I always feel obligated to wait until the bid is over and then if I miss out on the bid the other deal I found is gone.

I have an 18-55 for sale for $400 which includes shipping & a UV haze filter...

Excellent copy of 18-55 f/2.8-4 R LM OIS lens. Includes original box, both covers, & hood. In addition, I will include matching B+W UV Haze filter. Filter was installed day one to protect lens. All items in flawless, excellent condition and were purchased new by me.

Without turning this to a debate on the merits of different reviewers( and it will for sure :) here is a review of the 18-55 Ken Rockwell did some time back.
http://kenrockwell.com …-mount-lenses/18-55mm.htm (external link)

FYI Ken is well known amongst the photographic reviewer community having been one of the first reviewers to embrace the internet back in late 90's. Love or hate Ken IMO he does do a good job of reviewing cameras and lens in a real world situation rather than from a purely technical clinical point of view . Having said that he does have good technical experience to draw on if need be so technical considerations will always figure in any review he does just not as significantly as some other reviewers.

And as a user of the 18-55 and knowing fujinon glass pedigree from my old medium format film Fujinon lens days I can certainly vouch for the 18-55mm being up to Fuji's normal high quality standards of optics.

Finally for what its worth some reviewers mark down these walk around zoom lens from people like Canon Nikon Fuji and sony etc because they think that as they are sometimes included as "Kit Lens" at entry level prices that they must in turn be entry level in quality of optics. Actually for manufacturers such as Canon Nikon , Fuji etc this is infact the reverse. Invariably these "first lens purchase/ kit lens" offered at entry level prices with their camera body purchase are of a higher than normal quality. This is mainly due to the fact these manufacturers have a marketing strategy whereby they want the purchaser of a Camera body to have their first experience off bat to be the best possible experience( quality of image at affordable prices) that they can possibly give . Its all part of their customer retention strategy . Make it that good an experience that it exceeds customer expectations. Anyway....The long and the short of it is it just doesnt make sense for a manufacturer these days to match a top camera body like a xpro1/2 Xt-1/2 with a lens like the 18-55 if the lens is of so so quality as some reviewers would have you believe

this just appeared and thought you may be interested. https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1475811

This is a classic fujinon high quality prime. a nice sharp prime lens and delivers great soft Bokeh for portraiture etc .IMO This is probably fujinons best example of top professional quality optics. BTW There is a newer 35mm f2 out that is WR , slightly smaller, focus quicker and is slightly less expensive than 1.4 however IMO the f2 extra featuresare not enough to make up for the loss of one stop of light over the f1.4. I have a 35mm f1.4 and its my best prime of the x len's I own
