I know we're getting off track but image theft was the only reason I joined Facebook because people were downloading my images without asking, editing them, removing my copyright information then sharing them. I was called more names than I can think of and cursed out when I politely asked them to remove the images from their page. I know it's a web sized image at 72 dpi when they download it but for me it's more of the point for me.

Feel free to get as off-track as you want, it's O.K. with me. :)

There is no way that you can avoid anyone that wants your picture, as you're probably aware, most don't know that they are really hurting a thing, they see it as borrowing, it doesn't affect them until
someone does something similar to them, then they can get mad.
It's so easy to get rid of copyright information on most pictures, I know how easy it was when I did Photoshop for a living, (I didn't do it, I just knew how to delete anything) but from what I have read there are ways to really do it better now.
We've all seen the guy that shows his GIANT logo that is repeatedly placed across his image, that is the only true way to make them think twice about your image. I hate those, but it is about the only way I know.
That's really too bad about how they did that to you, it's really amazing how they can treat others, thankfully at least on Facebook you can shut them down. I will say that when I told them that 'young guy' that stole my image they took care of it, although it did take me awhile, I had to jump through hoops proving that it was my image.

.

The way things are in the internet age, you pretty much have to accept the fact that if you post a photo online, it is going to be used online by others. That's just the way it works.

In fact, the widespread mindset with virtually all social media sites is that it's "normal practice" to re-post a photo that someone else took and posted. 99% of the population would be completely surprised to learn that some people think there is something wrong with dong this.

When photos are shared on Flickr or Facebook, few people even think that it is a photo that the person posting it took. It is generally assumed that when somebody posts a photo, they took it from someone else's photo stream, or somewhere else on the internet......unless, of course, it is a photo of one's family members or vacation memories or something personal of that nature. But for generic things and famous people and iconic sites and product photography and pro sports images, and current events and so many other things, over 90% of the photos people post are simply re-posts that they got from someone else's re-post.

How in the world can anyone realistically attempt to stop any infringements whatsoever, when practically EVERYBODY'S images are being re-posted and re-posted again and again and again?

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

As serious as this is, Tom, things are much worse in the world aside from photography, not that it makes us feel any better. :)
For me, more than likely I will never use my photography for any profit, I did before I retired but now it really doesn't matter if it's stolen, it does, but at least I know they wouldn't get rich off of them! heheh

Really, that's how I look at it, now if they were going to make money off of it, that is a different story.
That's like how many times have we might have been contacted by those that want to 'use' our shots and not pay but they want to use them in their book or publication/calendar? That has happened to me a few times and it just depends on who it is to whether or not I give permission. Still though, some people just have gall. :)

(Hey Rog! I hope that you're really having a good time down there, I haven't seen much from you lately) :)

Well, I stand corrected!
From what I gather one must actually open up forums to be able to see pictures of birds, am I right? heheh
To be honest I haven't been around the forum for birds in the last couple of days, so my bad, user error on my part.
Great shots of yours too, I am not lying!
