Printer/Scanner Suggestions

I'm looking for suggestions on a reasonably priced printer/scanner. This one won't be used for photo printing, so I'm not worried about print quality, and the scanner will mainly be used for documents with only an occasional old family photo that I want to digitize. Another consideration is that I'd like to find a printer that's economical to operate as far as the cost of ink.

Thanks in advance.

The Canon MX922 gets good reviews and is currently $74 on Amazon. It actually delivers quite good photos due to the use of multiple ink tanks.

After Canon, I would suggest you explore the HP Envy series based on your needs.

If you don't need to print in color. Look at Samsung's Multi function Printer M2070

Just remember, the budget printer/scanners that are inkjets are pretty much sold below cost because they get you over the long run on replacement cartridges. Personally, I think a laser printer/scanner is the most cost-effective solution.

"Raw" is not an acronym, abbreviation, nor a proper noun; thus, it should not be in capital letters.

I went ahead and bought the MX922, looks like it's going to do everything I need (mostly scan and print documents).

It was interesting in that I selected free shipping and still got it in two days.

There's a solution for that too - aftermarket refillable ink cartridges. While the aftermarket ink may or may not produce images just as good as 'real' ink cartridges it doesn't matter to me for this application, I do all of my photo printing on PXMA Pro-100.

I don't know about the US, but here in the UK most business that do mail order will have an account with a carrier, and in general will ship everything on the same service. It actually works out cheaper for them that way. Given the size of the UK that would mostly be a next day service. Many retailers may show a cheaper slower option to the customer, and then upsell the 24Hr service. There is usually a good chance that because the contract is for the 24 hr service anyway that's what you get. Unless it is a very small item that can be stuck in the normal mail. This does fall down in times of high demand, since then thee may be a good chance you order gets shunted to the back of the queue in the packing department, and simply doesn't get dispatched for a couple of days.

I have found that I am actually better off with my prefered photo lab using the basic service, since again unless the post is unusually busy, they use Royal Mail (Eqv to USPS) First Class, which mostly still seems to come next day, and still includes a Saturday delivery. I also live in a small rural village, and know our postman to speak to. Makes for a good reliable service at the delivery end.
