I had a decent kit before, its listed in my sig. I traded in the 60D and the L and wide angle lens for an FZ1000.
Lately I've unhappy with this camera, I feel like Im getting soft images and a lot of noise. So, Im thinking of heading back to DSLR, I currently still have my old old Rebel xt, and 2 lens one of which is the nifty 250.

Im looking around for maybe an updated Rebel body. I shoot nature, wildlife and birds in flight( if they arent too far away lol)

Anyone have suggestions for me?

Downsize with canon. I LOVE the Eos M5. See the M5 thread for lots of details and pics...

If I take enough pictures, at least one of them should turn out...maybe

I chose the middle ground about 5 years ago, when I went to m4/3. I'm still happy with my decision. There are certainly compromises involved, but m4/3 has the best balance of overall system size and weight, price, and choice of bodies, lenses, and accessories FOR ME.

If the M5 was around 5 years ago I may have been persuaded to stay with Canon, but they have only just started taking mirrorless seriously.

Mistake it was. Rebel with crop sensor and L with fast and accurate AF and great glass was best kit I ever used for wildlife and BiF. I have it in AI Servo, back button for AF and it was great. Adding grip was solving L zooms balancing problem and adding significantly battery capacity.

Yeah, Im really wishing I kept the 60d, but most of all I wish I still my 500mm sigma. But hindsight right. So M huh. Do they accept the efs lenses?

That requires the EOS-M adapter. With this adapter you'll have full functionality, or at least that's my understanding based on limited research.

The big question is budget?

Birds and wildlife photography can go from reasonably affordable to $$$$$$$$$$$$.

As of recent after visiting my friends at the camera store they've mentioned more customers lately in the Micro 4/3 world specifically for wildlife / long telephoto needs. It's due to the 2x crop factor in the m43 sensor. The E-M1mk2 is a spendy body but it's the best I've ever seen in the m43 world for AF. Low light performance is still not up to par or dynamic range. However in good light it's incredibly impressive.

IQ tolerance is very personal. You may find purchasing a Canon body with micro adjust AF a good idea to tweak the sharpness as you mount different lenses to the body.

I owned a 60D and I was very happy with it but I find the newer crop sensors to be much better so getting a new body will have some pluses.

--( this is more a question but relevant to the OP since I have not used STM lenses )

With lenses how about some of the STM lenses. The 18-135 STM or 55-250 seem like an obvious choice. I've seen kits with a t6i with both lenses and accessories for about 1000. If I was starting with Canon this is what I would probably go with.

I'm currently checking out the 80D, Im not sold on the M series yet. I only downsized for the fact I had small saddlebags on my motorcycle, well I can fit 2 6packs in my new bike so, Im thinking of changing yet again. Probably keeping the FZ1000 though.

Question is 70D or 80D?

I have the 18 55 kit and 55 250 kit lenes with my rebelt Xt. So im thinking of maybe getting just the body or maybe the body with 18 135 lens, if it was sharp I just dont that lens

80D hands down is price isn't a factor between the two.
More/better AF and the ability to focus at F8 is important to birders.

DR at 100 iso and higher iso is both much better in 80D as far as consistantly across the ISO's as you climb. 70D has weird valleys you'l have to try to remember not to use it there.

I watched comparison videos, once you find 1 that mentions mostly stills performance and not video lol

They have a refurb 80d for 899.00 I might go that route if my bonus check comes in. Ill stick my 2 lenses for now, then maybe Ill pop on a sigma 150/600 with TC I saw those for around 1200.00

Oh, ok I see that. But is it a good body?

Would the t6i be good for wildlife, birds in flight, and landscapes?

Also whats the with the STM lenses? They have a kit with the 18/55 and 55/250 STM lens, I have the other versions of those lenses. Would that be worth getting?

Yes it would. I recently got my T6i kit to use for birding and wildlife. The first time out with it, I got some fabulous eagle pictures and a hawk in flight. Currently I am using the T6i on vacation in California and am amazed how capable it is. Image quality is more than I expected.
