I am about to order the tc mark III to pair for my 1st version of the 500mm along with my 7dmkII.

Anyone has this combo? I already have kenko 2.0 but would like to get the canon. Any significant improvement in IQ?

Thanks

Peter

Never tried the Kenko - sorry.

I don't have a 500 F4 Mk1 either!

However I used to have a 600 F4 L IS Mk1 and, if the light was good, then the Canon 2 x Mk3 can perform well. Your 500 is a little sharper than the 600 Mk1 so it should work a little better. Naturally it is not going to be as sharp as a bare lens and you will need to stop down a bit (say F11) to get the best out of it - hence the need for good light!

Hope this helps.

Life is for living, cameras are to capture it (one day I will learn how!).

I have 500 F4 V1 and both Canon 2X TCIII and Sigma 2X APO EX DG.
The Sigma TC results are better. Not by much, but slightly sharper and slightly more contrast.
Those results have been repeated on several other lenses, 300 F4 IS L, 100-400 VII and Sigma 150-600 Sport.

Another POTN member had the same result and he tried 2 different Canon 2XTCIII.

I have not noticed any difference in AF performance with my TCs.
