nice set up. not only one, but two acaia scales? damm lol how are they? I got cheap and went timemore. and is that the 3k+ grinder? you're not going full manual unless you get a hand grinder, better add that to the tools lol

i'm struggling with the latte art, i think i'm not getting the milk right in the first place. playing with latte first at the moment because it's what I wanted to have for getting a machine. then i'll focus on shots after.

what's your favorite brand beans?

Yeah I have a Lunar and a Pearl S, they’re both really nice but if Timemore had been more available in the US at they time I probably would have gone that route. They’re a nice value compared to the Acaia.

Not $3k haha but not far off. It’s a Kafatek Monilith Flat, I’ve had it for about 4 years now and it’s been a great investment. Don’t worry I have a nice hand grinder for my travel setup too, a 1ZPresso K-Plus.

Latte art takes awhile to get comfortable, just keep trying you’ll get the hang of it. Lance Hedrick has some great milk steaming videos on his YouTube channel with some helpful tips.

My favorite are probably Ruby Coffee from Wisconsin. Elixr from Philadelphia and Sweet Bloom from Denver are up there too.

I see only one scale, the other is a warmer? I have a digital scale too, but soon it only to set up the shot with new coffee beans.

his other scale is on the drip tray, under the cup that's getting extracted :P

how do they differ?

does the moka pot produce more flavor? It's been awhile since i use the drip one. i been using the moka pot alot these days, making thai tea and thai ice coffee. i tried using it once for coffee and its good like nespresso. going to try to make cuban coffee with it when i'm not too lazy.

ive been thinking of getting a nano whipping tool to do the sugar part instead of having to stir the heck out of it by hand hehe

what i like about the acaia is the timer will start once it feels the extra weight. the timemore's weight can jump around a bit and sometimes i have to remove the item off the scale and put it back down to make sure the weight is correct.

i remember seeing it on james hoffman's and few others. i thought.. wow looks good, i should get one. then the price came and i changed direction haha.

ahh ok. i was gonna get the k or maxplus. i actually just returned the cheaper jx model because i ended up splurging for the comandante.

yeah the video makes it look easy but when i try to do them, everything is so hard ahha. i think Lance is very knowledge and he should be for a 2 times champion, but I just dont like his personality. it's hard to watch but i try anyways to get the information he provides.

thanks for the coffee recomendations. I'll surely look back when I start exploring beans and shots :)

i just tried it with thai tea and its good too. but prefer the espresso for the stronger taste.

Thanks Tony! Acadia National park is on the list to go to! Need to get a set of winter run flat wheels for the snow up here. That’s the next purchase.

Whaaat? winter tyres? never needed them in north country NY or Boston - just AWD helps a lot, oh and not driving like a muppet either.

also with the M3, dude, with babies then toddlers, you're going to be pulling cheerios and all kinds of crap out of the seats, and spaces will get filled in with food bits etc.

good luck with the monthly detailing and washing that you'll end up getting ;)

yeah the auto rate/auto timer is awesome!

Commandantes are super nice. I bought the 1zpresso as an office grinder for when I was supposed to go back into the office so couldn’t quite justify the commandante price but they are definitely quality.

Haha I get your position on Lance’s videos. Like you said he is super knowledgeable but rambles a lot and isn’t very structured in his presentation, unlike say James Hoffman who’s coffee videos have a clear story loop.

you're suppose to say the scale is just ok... making me want it even more... haha. which one is the smaller one? and what makes the expensive one more expensive/worth it?

commandante feels so premium. I do like the iz's too and its easier to hold. i will probably get the iz again someday to grind tea into smaller bits.

I value james hoffman's cons alot. he's a very picky guy so it helps to know what is not necessary. so far, everyone's videos ive seen on yt has been helpful. i even enjoy watching other's 'morning routine' or coffee making over me trying to do it myself haha. go make a video Nick, i'll like and sub lol

Haha well then, it’s just ok.
The lunar is the smaller, it’s more water resistant and the smaller form factor which are the main pros for espresso.

Haha, I’ll make sure you send you a link if I start a YouTube channel

why does it have to be the more expensive one too? its less material, should be cheaper lol. a 2nd scale is convenient, I'm sure when I get more into shots, I'll look into it. I also found out that the timemore does auto time too, but it doesnt seem as smooth.

I been having some doubt of my purchase, thinking the breville would have been a better option to practice with. now I know why people got tired of 'surfing' temperature and boiler time on the gaggia.

The lunar is also completely aluminum where as the Pearls are plastic. They’re both nice scales but are definitely a premium product at a very premium price.

You’ll get the hang of it. Gaggia’s hold their value pretty well too so if you want to make a change as some point you can.

sweet! I like the sound of that. didnt hear anyone mentioning that it was aluminum. shoot, it's half of what the gaggia cost haha

I'm not going to play with wires and turning the machine into a robot. It's work that I dont want to put the effort in doing. I rather just save and spend on a dual boiler. but yeah.. I'm just trying to figure out the machine at the moment, I'm sure once I do, the complaining will stop lol

The changes I made on mine are just the minimal. Changed the spring to get a 9bar pressure and the ims shower screen for a nicer flow.

are you done with your bar or do you hope to upgrade to something else?
