I ended up with the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige, we were looking at that, the Phillips 5400 and the Jura E8, the Jura was sort of ruled out because its really expensive and the Phillips 5400 was out of stock constantly and we couldnt find it anywhere. the Cadorna was a happy middle ground and it makes very, very good espresso

The lighting outside was nicer so i could show it off. Need a nice sunny day for it too. In the sun its an extremely bright blue. very hard to miss. She goes in for her first scheduled maintenance tomorrow actually :)

Im still not used to how small it is.

sounds like an easy decision on the expresso machine :P

you normally drive an suv ? I like small cars for easy parking and more space in the lane hehe. is the car lease or straight buy? how long do you plan to own it for? I would recommend doing a clear bra on the head lights if you plan to have it for several years.

See... this is the problem with tea. You start talking about it and it kills the thread.

Now back to our regularly scheduled coffee talk! Since we had been talking about the Acaia scales, my Lunar had a bloated battery so I had to send it in for repairs, it's like 3+ years out of warranty but for the cost of shipping they replaced the battery and circuit board. Above and beyond I say! After using a cheap scale in the interim I forgot how nice these things are...

I only time I use the scale is to tune for new beans , not after, adjust grind size, adjust grinder time, adjust brewing time. Do you use it every time you brew?

Yeah, I use a scale constantly. I single dose so I weigh beans before I grind and then weigh during any espresso shots or pourovers. I bounce around beans pretty frequently so it’s mostly to help validate that I’m in the range I want for extraction.

Whaaat? winter tyres? never needed them in north country NY or Boston - just AWD helps a lot, oh and not driving like a muppet either.

also with the M3, dude, with babies then toddlers, you're going to be pulling cheerios and all kinds of crap out of the seats, and spaces will get filled in with food bits etc.

good luck with the monthly detailing and washing that you'll end up getting ;)

Lmfao it has summer tires on there now rated for only above 45 degrees. Those will be swapped out with a winter wheel/tire set.

Going to? I’m already cleaning it out as he tosses his milk bottle and it goes everywhere. Then the wife feeds him and he tosses some of that stuff lol that’s why his side of the car is basically covered up. He can get those covers dirty all he wants lol easy to clean then goes right back in.

Even without the kid a monthly detailing is a must :) here he is while we are getting the work done. Two BMWs in that picture if you know what I mean :)

Bit the bullet. Finally a sub 250 drone I thought was worth buying.

you should tell him he needs it shaved off to be streamlined for biking...

as for the drone - what are you going to take images from? isn't there a restriction zone around NYC?

Nick has a single dose grinder, it doesnt have a hopper to keep the beans. keeping beans in hopper causes them to go stale faster, so people like to store them in an air tight jar or keep in the bag. im too lazy so I dump the beans in my grinder hopper hehe. also it helps keep the beans pushed down instead of popcorning. when I get more picky about my espresso shots, I will go back to doing singles. i'm still working on latte so it doesnt matter too much for me. using cheap beans and sometimes dumping the drink while practice.

I think it was age plus moisture, especially considering it’s on the espresso machine while theres steam around. The fact that they have this program makes me think it’s a semi common issues.

Good clarification on the fact I have a single dose grinder. Definitely creates a different workflow requiring more weighing and close monitoring.

Nick can you share the numbers for single or double shot

beans weight, extraction time and resulting espresso weight.

Thanks I will also weigh to check my setting.s

I dont put much on hopper, beans stay most in siartight containers.

Cheers,
Tony
