After months of trying to figure out what new camera to get I'm going with the 80D. But I'm not sure If I should get just the body and use the lenses I have listed below in my signature with the intent of adding a 100-400L Mk ll. However I want to do some video so I'm wondering if the 18-135 package would be better or take the difference and get a different lense. I think the 18-135 package is $400 more than just the body, so could I get a better lens for video in that price range or would it be better to start a video lens fund?

So in the end I'd have the 17-40L, the 100-400MK ll, and a video lens. Only other lens I would add would be a fast zoom like the 16-35 2.8. I like the idea of a lite set up. Forces me to think more and plan my shots.

I adore the 18-135mm STM lens,. it's a fantastically flexible zoom range to have on APS-C body. Wish I had something like it for my 5D4 as well.

I'm not sure I would want to pay a $400.00 premium for it though.

The version I got was about $200.00 used in like new condition. If $$ is precious, you might want to look to pick one up that way as opposed to $400.00 in a kit, but I'm not sure what the latest version has to offer over the STM version.

Just get the body. If you absolutely need an ef-s lens, get the 18-55. For longer stuff, spring for EF glass. My 24-105 and 70-200 work just fine on the 80D.

I got my 18-135 STM from someone here pretty indistinguishable for new. Unless you need it right away, it should be possible to save a bucket and still get a very clean copy of the lens from someone for a bunch less.

Thanks for the input guys. I just looked and its $1,100 for the body or $1,500 for the combo. Looks like I'll get just the body and try to get the 18-135 here used and help someone out in the process. Thanks again guys.

FYI - you can get the 80D right now at the refurb store with the 18-55 STM for $850 + tax.

$900 for body alone
$1150 with the 18-135 STM.

I got the 18-135 USM with my 80D. It's a good and useful everyday lens and better than reviews suggest (at least mine is) and better than the STM version (which my daughter has). But it cost me a lot less than $400 and that was in AU$!

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

If you live in the States, you might consider the refurb with 18-55 STM directly from Canon for $850 (it's Presidents Day sale) and like others have suggested get the 18-135 used. See https://shop.usa.canon.com …-6-is-stm-kit-refurbished (external link)

I would suggest the 18-200 instead of the 18-135. I had both of them, they're essentially the same, but the 200 just gives you greater flexibility.
