If this lens was introduced last year and scheduled for availability in October 2016, then December 2016, then January 2017..........is this normal?

I know it is the "kit" lens for the 5D Mark IV, but it seems all retail outlets still show "pre-order" or "coming soon."

The lens didn't exactly get rave review so I'm wondering if Canon is perhaps "tweaking" the design.

Would love to know what is going on or if anyone has heard more about this lens and why it is taking so long to get on the market.

It's not normal. I don't know why it's taking so long.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I understand that earthquakes in Japan last year have impacted the availability of some products--it is possible Canon was affected.

I'm hoping you are correct and Canon is tweaking the design. I was hoping the 24-105ii was the same kind of upgrade as the 100-400ii. If that is in the works, the delay will be more than justified in my view.

I can't see them "tweaking the design". It would mean changing some of the optical elements to make any meaningful difference which would be costly and would probably require the lens to be re-identified to distinguish it from the launch version.

I'm being stupidly hopeful, I agree... all the parts are in and being assembled.... could a software/firmware change make any difference? Look, I am pretty content with my refurbished 24-105 and wasn't going to upgrade unless the improvements were dramatic. Still, from all I've read, it's a disappointment.
