I'm getting a lot of "Image Failed to Load" white boxes where images should be. I started noticing it and assumed they were dead links (I first noticed in some old photo threads) but then clicked on one on a whim and it loaded - that one was Flickr, but it happens on forum gallery images too. Not all the time, but sometimes.

I am on cable, so I'd assume it shouldn't be a speed issue, but also shouldn't it just load slowly instead of failing if speed were an issue?

I love a like, but feedback (including CC) is even better!

It may be an issue caused by a browser "giving up too fast" when image URL is not immediately contacted, browser bugs are also possible. I have seen that happen before and in the next version an image with possible the error message gets another retry/load attempt before it is replaced by the custom error message.

I may also let the member disable the "live" custom image error icons, that might help in some situations.

FYI: The actual message "image not found" is given internally by your browser the the forum JS code (which in turn replaces the broken image icon with our own), so it is not just us who is saying it might not be there, but the actual browser you use is the one that gets it wrong.

I'll keep on working with these issues.

Oh, hmm. Thanks for the response! I'm on Edge, but this is the only site that I get this issue on, so I figured it was a site issue. Of course, there are more and bigger images here than most places I go, so that might have something to with it also.

the most common "spot where I have encountered this (at least for my images) has been where/when an image has for whatever been "removed" from access, typically in the Web host that I use sometimes because if I may have fallen behind in my subscription/payment to that Web host, and at times they have disabled posting to the image, specifically to the "original" copy of that image, although they do keep the various copies of my stuff long-term, but I can't post to the original full-size version. When that does pop up, well, I have to double-check my source and ensure that at least I can post to a "smaller version", rather than my full-sized original.

Anyway, that can explain why sometimes there can be a real issue with forum/Web access to stuff!

I have updated the server software version (several bugs fixed and features added). Do you see any difference?

Later I'll make the site use SSL which also means new methods of communication with the browsers (HTTP/2). Let's see how it goes then.

Let me see - it's inconsistent, which makes it the most frustrating sort of bug to track down. I'll surf for a bit and let you know if it appears different.

So it seems less common than it was, but it still happens, and on some of the image threads it still happens fairly frequently.

I also checked and it's only Edge - not Chrome, not Firefox. Haven't tried IE11 yet, but I can. This is also the only site it happens on, though.

I still occasionally get that, like just a few minutes ago, with FFox which is what I usually use.

Thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one! I didn't spend extensive time checking the other browsers, but handy to know it's not just E.

Often, if you reload the page(f5) the missing images will appear.

I'm finding no difference in the occurrence of this issue. It is still happening very frequently.

When I've had an image unable to load in FF, it's always from photobucket. They do load fine in Safari though.

The forum in general for the past two days has been quirky. Images loading halfway or not at all but with no 'image failed to load' message. Sometimes when they do load it looks like a dial up connection....that is you can watch the image load in a scrolling fashion from top to bottom. Pages sometimes won't turn. I notice these problems only on this site. Others have been fine.

Seems better today.

I haven't noticed an increase in failures during the past two days. Some images are marked as too large to load, as always. Maybe a little more slowness, but I can't be sure it isn't at my end, extra traffic on the ISP's lines or something. I use Firefox.

FFox: What I find interesting is that some images on a page load & some do not. Reloading the page brings them all up. This doesn't make sense to me, but I'm getting used to it.
