Is there a way to mark a thread as unread? I have a massive thread I want to go through and read every post, plucking useful tips here and there. But it thinks I have read nearly 80% of it already, so go to new takes me many pages deep. Is there a way to reset my read count on a specific thread, just mark the whole thing as unread? I see when I click the "followed" menu at the top right that I can mark the thread as seen, but I want to do the opposite and mark the whole thread as unseen.

Thanks.

If you just want to go back to other posts in the thread, just click the page numbers at the top once you are in the thread. It will take you back to that page and ignore where your "bookmark" is for the unread messages.

Yeah, but this is a *really* long thread, well over 500 pages. So I'm wanting to reset it so I can keep track of where I've left off and pick it up when I come back to the forum.

So you "follow" the thread now, right?

The short answer is: to set up a quick return waypoint, go to the page you read last and then click "followed" -> "stop following this thread", then "follow thread". Now the next page is the one when you will arrive next time when you click that "go to next unseen" or "traverse unseen" for that thread.

The long answer (and maybe some useful info), here's what above does:

When you come to a very big thread that was started earlier, and you click the"follow thread" command on e.g. page 231

- all before page 231 is marked as "seen"
- all after the page 231 is set as "unseen"
- new posts after this moment are notified as "NEW" posts.

Now, the real trick is that all the posts that are "unseen" (in this case all pages after page 231), are now tracked in detail for viewing, and you can browse those unseen posts with "traverse unseen" command.

So, in above case, if you browse e.g. every other page after page 231 manually, the traverse unseen knows that you have missed some posts and shows you those, in order (it knows when you have seen each single post or not and it does this by per pixel "seeing what you see").

PS. The unseen system is not meant for this kind of bookmarking, but simply to make you never miss a post. It also lets you view a thread so that you only see posts with images.

It might be easier just to add a bookmark to your browser :)

Pekka,

Thank you for the detailed answer. You've really built some amazing software with this forum, and I know I'm not the only person who appreciates both the work you've put into the software but also that you provide this place for the community of photographers to share their work, exchange ideas and learn from each other. It is very much appreciated.

What I like about using the feature in the forum, for marking things unseen, is that it doesn't matter what browser I am using as long as I am logged in, I can get to the correct spot in the thread to continue reading. I have several browsers installed on my main computer, but also have a few computers I use as well as my phone to browse the forum. So using a bookmark to keep track of my location in a thread wouldn't be as useful as using the feature you have built. For my use case, I think it is actually easier to do exactly what you said, first unfollow the thread, then go to the location where I have gotten, and start following it again. Then I can use the traverse unseen to work my way through the thread, and collecting all the great tips and tricks other photographers have shared in this epic thread. Well, actually I have a few epic threads I'm following in this manner, it's just this one that I guess I originally clicked follow in the wrong spot.
