Version II of the IS lens will say "II" right on it. If not, it is version one. If it doesn't say "Image Stabilized", there are no 'versions'. Canon only made one of the non-IS type.

joeseph "smells like turd" More info | Feb 24, 2017 15:47 | #4 Doesn't help with the 10 digit code, but the 70-200mm F/2.8 IS MK I focusing ring rubber is the same width as the zoom ring width (about 32mm/ 1 1/4") some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Sir_Loin Senior Member More info | Feb 25, 2017 05:53 | #8 The MkI IS version didn't use the 10 digit serial number as far as I'm aware so that should narrow it down. Look to see if there's an alpha numeric code printed on or near the rear lens mount as well, that's the old date code which will tell us the year of manufacture. I hope this helps. If the focus ring and zoom ring are the same size, and it has a 10 digit serial number with no date code on the rear mount, you have a 70-200mm f/2.8 without image stabilization. As Bassat said, there is only one version of this lens so it would not show "I" or "II". (Canon has never used "I" on any first version of any lens) Mike Sowsun / SL1 / 80D / EF-S 24mm STM / EF-S 10-18mm STM / EF-S 18-55mm STM / EF-S 15-85mm USM / EF-S 55-250mm STM / 5D3 / Samyang 14mm 2.8 / EF 40mm 2.8 STM / EF 50mm 1.4 USM / EF 100mm 2.0 USM / EF 100mm 2.8 USM Macro / EF 24-105mm IS / EF 70-200mm 2.8L IS Mk II / EF 100-400 II / EF 1.4x II
