So the heavy precipitation this winter made for some unusually easy pickings today. My city has set a record for precipitation in a water year and there are still 7 months to go.

These photos were taken on a path that is ow flooded in a local nature study area.

Virginia Rail, I saw 9 today which triples my most observed in one location.

Song Sparrow, this is the closest I have been able to get a picture of these birds. Must be quite hungry.

Thanks Zach.

They can be pretty secretive.

Good ones, John, especially the rail. There were two Virginia Rails grunting (they sound like pigs) in the marsh opposite our dock last summer, but I never was able to see them.

Thanks Al, they have a large repertoire of sounds and can be so secretive.
