I currently own a BR RS-7 shoulder strap and an Induro BHD2 ball head. I love them both and each has served me well for years.

However, I often want to switch from strap to tripod quickly and I'm currently unable to do so. The tripod plate that came with the head doesn't have threads on the bottom for attaching the strap.

I see two options potentially. First, find a replacement plate with threads on the bottom so I can attach the included Definitely ring from the strap. BR sells a plate that sounds like it would work but costs more than the second option...

...which is to buy a replacement plate attachment screw that has a d-ring for attaching the strap. BR sells this also but it mentions only Manfrotto compatibility. I also see some inexpensive d-rings on Amazon but I'm not sure I trust them for carrying the weight of the camera when using the strap.

Has anyone found a solution to this and can point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I use a Really Right Stuff B2-FABN permanently attached to the end of my BlackRapid strap using the regular BR fastener.

I have a Black Rapid Breathe Curve which I always use with SpiderPro Holster which comes with the plate with threads. Both serve as a safety net to each other, too. I don't trust either by itself. In any case, it's a great system where I can have my hands free as well as going straight atop the tripod.

I use the same clamp but with my luma cinch strap. The clamp works great.

I don't know if the ballhead is arca Swiss but Custom SLR makes a plate that lets you offset the strap mount without having to take it off

I think I have one available in the sale thread

Use a small Arca clamp on your strap and you can easily switch between tripod and strap. I use this one and it is absolutely perfect.

The clamp screws to the strap and then you connect your camera to the strap in the same way that you would connect it to your tripod.

Edit: Just realised I have recommended the same piece of kit as the post above me!!. Guess thats a good recommendation :)

I have the same head and use this plate with offset strap mounting tab from Sirui. Has anti twist tabs too.
The BR ring has never tried to loosen up.

I went through this same problem years ago and standardized on Arca-Swiss mounts and straps that attach via the eyelets on the QR plate and camera. Currently using Op/Tech slings and either buy Arca-compatible heads or convert/adapt them to Arca.

This may not be the answer you are looking for but you could replace the BR strap. I use a Peak Design Slide specifically because it functions very much like the BR except it allows access to the tripod socket. The strap attaches to one of the camera's strap lugs and to a slot on the Arca type plate that comes with it. The entire strap slides instead of just the camera connection and, because it's connected in two places, and additional benefit is that the camera doesn't dangle and bounce around like it does when hanging from a single mount. Fairly cheap, too. About $60. FWIW

I actually really like this design. I think I will look into this solution. Thanks for the suggestion.

The Acratech Swift clamp works really well with the Black Rapid Straps!

I spent the past week contemplating this exact scenario after deciding to upgrade my tripod for a compact CF version. Moving to Arca-swiss seemed like a no brainer but despite a plethora of options available for keeping an A-S plate permanently mounted to the camera with a built-in spot for the BR7 sling strap, the strap itself would need to be removed whenever I wanted to use the tripod (like with the Acratech swift clamp). I didn't want that.

I then found the Sirui LP70 A-S plate that's also linked above and ordered it with my new tripod and head. I also decided to get a $7 connector from Amazon to tether the camera body to the BR7 (in case the plate mount fails with sling on my shoulder).

For your setup, the Sirui A-S plate would work great.

Yes, the strap does need to be removed in order to mount it to the ballhead. For me I actually prefer it that way, the strap doesn't get in my way when I'm composing a shot. I also have noticed during some long exposures where the strap catches some wind and moves the camera ever so slightly. So with it not being directly connected, problem eliminated.
