I currently use the Yongnuo 622C-TX and YN-622Cs to trigger my speedlights and Rovelights in HSS/SS. They work well enough for portrait type stuff, where the range isn't really important. However, roller derby season is coming around again. This setup, in the arena where they bout sees me only being able to trigger the strobes that are on the end of the track that I am on. Not a big deal if that is where I'm actually shooting, but often I am shooting across to the other side. Or, sometimes I am in the middle, and the strobes on the ends of the track won't fire at all. I'm sure this has to do with being inside, versus being outside. But, I remember the YN-622Cs having documented range issues outside, too.

So, I'm looking for something that will have improved reliability, but not at 5x the cost. I know the old saying (or versions of it depending on what you are actually dealing with): "You can have any two of low cost, reliable, and good quality." Basically, I want my cake and I also want to eat it. LOL.

Seriously, though.... is there anything out there, for a reasonable price, that will do the job more reliably? Or, should I stick with what I have? Anyone know how the 622C-IIs are? Any improvement in the range? Any other suggestions? I'm all ears. Thanks for any help.

Maybe the Flashpoint R1 HSS Transceiver? For only $33.00 ($66.00) for a set, I may give it a shot. I like the external antenna design and it looks like it would work with the speedlights, as well. Hmmm....

So, I ended up going with the R2 transmitter and receiver. I'll try them out when they get here and see what happens. They are advertised with a greater than 100m range. Hopefully, with 30 channels to choose from, I'll be able to find one that works well in the arena.

LOL. If anyone has any advice, or experience already with the product, advice is still wanted.

I have a tendency to talk about things when trying to make a decision. My wife hates when I talk to her about photography. So, I did it here. LOL.

I'm using a Phottix Odin (v1) controlling a Strato II for HSS, it's reliable, but I've never tested the range at the level you need. Hopefully the R2 works well, the price is right...the Phottix solution is much more expensive, but I was already using Odins for my speedlites.

Heya,

I'm wondering if you can find a way to simply relay the signal... or a transceiver that works with relaying signal rather than only receiving it from the primary on your camera... hrm.

Very best,

Very best,

I haven't tried a relay in the setup for Supersync (maybe I will) - but I'd expect a relay to introduce an extra delay, and the delay might vary. So I'm not optimistic.

Like cutwater, I use Odins (to a Strato II receiver) and it has been completely reliable - but I haven't needed more than 30m range.
