Playing around with some numbers to help calculate fair prices for used lenses. I think this sort of comes up with some fair results. Thoughts?

Didn't use any standard depreciation models - don't know any... just played with numbers until they sort of worked.

Not a math geek but enjoyed the fact that you tried to put it in Excel and calculate, because that's what I would've done as well lol

With that said, I think it's tough to estimate a fair used price because all of that is based on supply and demand. So a 10/10 rated used lens might be worth less in the market if there are ten copies available, versus only one copy available. Yes, the fair price can be calculated but, in the real world, I'm not sure how much actual value these numbers hold. I could be wrong though.

Much kudos!!

Yes, supply and demand are really the only two factors that matter.

A fair price is a price that falls in line with the prices that current sales have garnered, given the same sales venue, payment method, and locations of the buyers and sellers, for equivalent items.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

very cool

I think when you compare to KBB for cars etc.... or any other valuation process location matters

this spreadsheet would be perfect if there were a place to enter my zip code to get local value

I have been watching a certain model of motorcycle on ebay and seeing large variations on price based on location

I don't think that really applies to lenses unless you are meaning for different countries. With a vehicle or bike it's a completely different story since it's not easily shipped and buyers want to see it in person and drive it or get it looked at beforehand. Lenses can be shipped easily to anywhere in the US if something is wrong you are covered by Paypal. Anyone from anywhere in the U.S. (and elsewhere) can hop online and pick one of many places to buy used lenses and have it shipped. Really shouldn't be much variation in price across the U.S. Would also require an incredible amount of data for any type of accuracy.
