Fall to early spring in the Texas Rio Grande valley and gulf coast is pretty hard to beat. You get the northern migration and birds coming in from the south. A lot of state parks really carter to birders and the World Birding locations offer a wide variety of species. There's always the chance of getting something rare; this year a Amazon Kingfisher at Laredo and Red-Throated Becard at Estero Llano Grande State Park in Weslaco (got it).

Drive around the Florida coast and the prairies and marshes inland. No matter the time of year, you're on birds.

Very best,

You're in New York? Go to Nickerson Beach State Park and Jamaica Bay NWR.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

I will be in the Miami area in May. Any specific areas?
