This is the first time I have seen these birds in town. I doubt they will stay and nest at this location either. Nonetheless it is a very wonderful treat.

very beautiful set. We have them here but not in a photographic setting: their main resting area is in a cow pasture... lots of BS there. ;) Not a nice setting for a photograph of them.

We do see them flying in large groups as they migrate north. They are even more beautiful flying as they are walking around. So graceful.

Nice photo's John, the SHC are everywhere here.
You can see them walking on the streets and sidewalks in the neighborhood.

Thank you Kim. I have seen a pair in flight before and you are right about them being graceful. I would love to see a large group in flight.

Thanks Brad, we have to enjoy the species as we get them, so it can be bittersweet when they leave.

These are great shots, John especially with the included habitat. They sure look a lot like Whooping Cranes. (Like Whoopers that rolled in the dirt.) Do not see them very often here.

Cool shots in their long grass environment John. We actually had one spend the winter near Hapifax harbour - he must have been cold!

Thanks Rog. I am finding that I like my photos with habitat more now.

Thanks Ian. I would think so. Very strange when a migrant overstays. Make you wonder if it was injured.

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Great shots. The first confirmed pair of the year showed up in my area last week-in a location that they raised young in last year, so hoping for more.

Thanks, our best is in the Sierra Valley from what I have been able to find out.
