Laptops aren't banned on US flights. Lots of people have them on during the flight even.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear, it's flights into the US from various airports/countries not flights within the US itself.

The UK has also introduced a similar ban for incoming flights.

I'm going via Dubai and Australia then onto New Zealand and my concern is that whilst that route is OK at the moment the bans might be extended to elsewhere and particularly into and out of Dubai which is where some of the US flights are from.

I've been mulling it over, as you do (didn't sleep very well) and I've decided to just take the 650D and a mid-zoom rather than the three lenses and my other gear, the G16 and the compact. I'm also taking the laptop again now unless things change in the next 24 hours.

As long as I can get to NZ OK and backup my photos as I go I'll worry about bringing stuff back when the time comes.

Yes! When I am travelling, I am sightseeing too. During last year's 3 week trip to northern France, Belgium, the Normandy Beaches, England and Wales, I took a total of 1744 photos. That is an average of 83 per day. Not too much! ;-)a

As an update, I'm glad to report that despite my concerns, I was able to make the trip without any problems.

Just got to sort through my 3000+ photographs now and post a few on here!

Got some pretty good shots I can't wait to process etc.

I've noticed though that it can take some time to upload images to OneDrive and am wondering if I should just stick to JPEG given that even with those you can do some processing in LR and I'm pretty happy with the results?

What do folks think?

I would stick with raw, because you never know. It can take "some time" to upload? So start the upload at bedtime and have a good sleep. I don't see upload time as a problem.
