No doubt these Hoary Redpolls were blown straight down from Baffin Island with the horrific winds of the last two days.

Thank you, Brad. Most years we get redpolls, though not always. Hoaries are always very much in the minority; most are Common Redpolls. But they are amiable birds as opposed to the truculent Pine Siskins which are also around this year.

It actually was at times, Rog, but overall it felt good compared to the wind and cold we've had here the last couple days. But surely you are familiar with hoar frost? That's just what these birds look like, as if they are frosted.

Thanks, Ian. I'm always cautious about identifying a Hoary Redpoll as there can be quite a gradation between them and the Commons. But it's fun when you know you have one for sure.
